Hyderabad Toofans claimed third place in the Hockey India League (HIL) 2026 by defeating HIL GC 4-3 in an intense match at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Amandeep Lakra scored twice, supported by Nilakanta Sharma and Jacob Anderson, while Sam Ward and Kane Russell found the net for HIL GC. This victory solidified the Toofans’ successful record against HIL GC this season.
Hyderabad Toofans dominated the game from the start, showcasing control and aggression. With numerous circle entries in the first quarter, they appeared more likely to score first. Despite Jacob Anderson missing a crucial chance, HIL GC managed to take the lead against the run of play through Sam Ward.
Despite the initial setback, the Toofans continued to press for an equalizer. Nilakanta Sharma leveled the score with a powerful strike after hitting the post earlier. Amandeep Lakra then converted a penalty corner to put Hyderabad Toofans ahead just before half-time.
In the second half, Jacob Anderson extended the lead for Hyderabad Toofans, capitalizing on a loose ball. While HIL GC tried to mount a comeback, they were unable to breach the Toofans’ defense. Sam Ward and Kane Russell scored for HIL GC, but Amandeep Lakra’s second goal ensured a 4-3 victory for Hyderabad Toofans.
