An Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter was deployed to Arunachal Pradesh’s Keyi Panyor district to assist in search and rescue operations following flash floods. The mission included delivering 350 kg of NDRF relief material and transporting NDRF personnel to the affected area.
Five persons were initially reported missing after flash floods hit the NEEPCO project colony near Poosa. One person’s body has been found, while four others remain missing. The missing individuals have been identified as Elesh Marak, Balari Marak, Tao Anjina, and Sourav Kumar.
Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen K.T. Parnaik expressed deep grief over the loss of life and urged proactive measures to be taken during the monsoon season. He emphasized the importance of identifying vulnerable locations and ensuring timely dissemination of advisories to residents in flood-prone areas.
At least 20 people sustained injuries in the calamity, with some reported to be in critical condition. The injured have been taken to a government hospital for treatment. The disaster also led to the collapse of an under-construction retaining wall and damage to houses and infrastructure.
Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable locations to remain alert due to heavy rainfall triggering landslides and flash floods. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed grief over the situation and extended condolences to the affected families. The Assam government has issued a high alert due to the potential downstream impacts of heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh.
