IAS officer Saurabh Vijay has assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer at the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). A civil engineer from IIT-Delhi, Vijay belongs to the 1998 batch of the Maharashtra cadre and has held various significant positions in both state and central governments. Before joining UIDAI, he served as the Principal Secretary, Expenditure, in Maharashtra’s Finance Department, and has a diverse background including roles in planning, tourism, and education sectors.
Vijay’s experience extends to national and international roles, having served as Director at the President’s Secretariat in New Delhi and as Advisor to the Executive Director for Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, and Sri Lanka at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. Meanwhile, UIDAI has announced the extension of the free online Aadhaar document update service on the myAadhaar portal until June 14, following a positive response from users who have been utilizing the online update facility.
In addition, UIDAI has revealed plans to retire the mAadhaar app, with users now able to download the new Aadhaar app. The new app offers enhanced features such as secure QR-based Aadhaar sharing, improved privacy controls, and easier access to Aadhaar services, aiming to streamline the digital identity experience for users. The free document update service, previously chargeable, will now be available at no cost until June 14, 2027, exclusively through the myAadhaar portal.
The office memorandum states, “It has been decided to extend the facility for one more year, i.e., from June 15, 2026, to June 14, 2027. Accordingly, the facility for document update shall continue to be free of cost through myAadhaar portal at https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/ up to June 14, 2027.”
