A two-member International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation recently visited Bangladesh to engage with stakeholders of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB before the upcoming elections on June 7. The delegation, consisting of ICC Board Directors Dr. Mohammed A.S. Moosajee from Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Tavengwa Mukuhlani from Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), arrived in Dhaka and interacted with various representatives in the cricketing community to assess the BCB’s situation. The ICC clarified that the delegation will present its findings to the ICC Board and refrain from making public comments on the issue.
The visit holds significance for Bangladesh cricket amidst recent leadership changes within the board and the upcoming elections. Currently, the BCB is being overseen by an 11-member ad-hoc committee led by former Bangladesh men’s captain Tamim Iqbal after the dissolution of the previous Aminul Islam-led board by the National Sports Council (NSC) on April 7. The NSC’s decision was based on a probe committee report highlighting significant irregularities in the previous board election. Tamim had advocated for an investigation, citing support from 50 out of 76 clubs in the capital.
The NSC has emphasized that the future of the BCB will be determined based on the probe committee’s report. The ICC delegation’s visit is viewed as a step towards ensuring transparency and credibility in the electoral process. Notably, during Aminul’s tenure, Bangladesh withdrew from the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup due to a disagreement over playing matches in India, following the removal of Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from his IPL 2026 contract with the Kolkata Knight Riders.
