The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced Daryl Mitchell, Joe Root, and Suryakumar Yadav as potential candidates for the Men’s Player of the Month for January. These players showcased exceptional performances both with the bat and ball throughout a busy month of cricket.
New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell played a pivotal role in his team’s 2-1 victory over India in the ODI series. Mitchell’s impressive performance included scoring back-to-back centuries in the second and third matches, helping New Zealand recover from a 0-1 series deficit.
Joe Root contributed significantly to England’s triumph against Sri Lanka in the three-match ODI series. Root’s consistent improvement saw him scoring 61, 75, and an unbeaten 111 in the final match, aiding England in overturning a 0-1 series deficit to win 2-1.
Suryakumar Yadav regained form ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a stellar display against New Zealand in the five-match T20I series. After a string of low scores, Yadav struck three half-centuries, accumulating a total of 242 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 196.74, securing the Player of the Series accolade.
In a standout performance, Suryakumar’s unbeaten 82 in the second T20I helped India chase down New Zealand’s total of 208 in just 15.2 overs, marking India’s second-highest successful run chase in T20 cricket.
