Sohan Tarkar, a short-track ice skater from Maharashtra, faced a challenging period after battling depression six years ago. Despite earlier successes in ice skating, he struggled with despondency and weight gain during the pandemic, leading him to consider quitting the sport. With the support of his mother, Sonali, Tarkar decided to make a comeback towards the end of 2023.

Having transformed his physique and mindset, Tarkar underwent training under Sameer Gole in Pune and qualified for the 2025 Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China. Despite setbacks in the 2026 Khelo India Winter Games, Tarkar’s resilience and determination stand out as his most significant achievements.

Reflecting on his journey, Tarkar emphasized the importance of perseverance and gratitude, acknowledging the role of luck in sports success. He expressed contentment in returning to the rink and overcoming the challenges he faced.
