Iltija Mufti, daughter of PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, had her account withheld in India. This action was taken following a legal demand, as confirmed by the platform. The move came after an FIR was filed against Iltija Mufti by Cyber Police Kashmir due to a video clip featuring late separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
Attempts to access Iltija Mufti’s account in India now display a notice stating that access has been restricted in compliance with a legal request. Such notices are typically issued by the platform when accounts are blocked or withheld under legal provisions or government directives.
Cyber Police Srinagar registered FIR No. 11 under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) alleging that certain online content promoted separatist narratives that could disrupt public order. Iltija Mufti took responsibility for sharing the video and requested authorities not to harass those who reposted or interacted with her content.
She has criticized actions against separatists, advocating for meaningful engagement as the solution to issues. Iltija Mufti believes punitive measures only sour public relations and breed mistrust among people. She has also opposed restrictions imposed by authorities, including the house arrest of her mother and other leaders in the interest of maintaining law and order.
In a previous incident, Iltija Mufti evaded her personal security by leaving her mother’s residence at night and later appeared in the Poonch district of the Jammu division. Despite contesting in the 2024 Assembly elections from her ancestral hometown constituency of Bijbehara in Anantnag district, she was defeated by National Conference (NC) candidate Dr. Bashir Ahmad Shah Veeri.
