The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall and strong winds in Tamil Nadu on Sunday. Areas like Nilgiris, Theni, and Dindigul districts are expected to receive intense showers. Coimbatore district’s hill areas may also experience heavy rain due to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the west-central Bay of Bengal and south Andhra Pradesh.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) mentioned that moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The prevailing weather conditions are conducive for rain activity across various regions of the state for the next two days.
Residents of Nilgiris, Theni, and Dindigul districts have been cautioned about heavy rainfall and gusty winds on Sunday. Similar weather conditions are anticipated in the higher reaches of Coimbatore district, prompting vigilance in landslide and waterlogging-prone areas.
Moderate rainfall is also expected in northern districts like Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and others. Although widespread heavy rain is not foreseen, intermittent showers may bring relief from the prevailing warm weather.
The IMD forecasts continued heavy rain and strong winds in Nilgiris and Coimbatore’s hill regions on Monday. Chennai is likely to have partly cloudy skies with moderate rain in some areas during the day. The rainfall is expected to moderate daytime temperatures, though humidity may persist.
Meteorologists advise the public, especially those traveling through hilly regions, to stay informed with official weather updates and be cautious due to the potential for heavy rain, gusty winds, and local disruptions.
