The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts moderate rainfall in Tamil Nadu’s Western Ghats districts until July 24. The Regional Meteorological Centre states that an atmospheric circulation over the Gulf of Mannar and south Tamil Nadu is influencing the current weather conditions. This system is expected to increase moisture inflow into the Western Ghats, leading to moderate rainfall in the hill districts until July 24.
Apart from the Western Ghats region, isolated spells of light to moderate rain are expected in various parts of Tamil Nadu over the next few days. The forecast also includes Puducherry and Karaikal, where isolated showers are likely during this period. While the rainfall may bring relief to some districts, temperatures in several interior areas are expected to remain above normal.
Maximum temperatures along the Tamil Nadu coast, Puducherry, and Karaikal are likely to be near normal until July 22. However, inland districts could experience daytime temperatures up to 3 degrees Celsius higher than the seasonal average. Hot and humid conditions are anticipated, with residents advised to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and stay hydrated.
For Chennai, partly cloudy skies are expected with moderate rain in some parts of the city during the day. Localized showers are forecast mainly in the afternoon or evening, with variations across different neighborhoods. The maximum temperature in Chennai may reach around 36 degrees Celsius, with high humidity intensifying the perceived warmth.
The Meteorological Department recommends that residents, especially those in the Western Ghats districts, stay updated on weather forecasts as rainfall patterns may vary based on local conditions in the upcoming days.
