The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate rainfall in Tamil Nadu’s Western Ghats districts until July 31 due to a weak low-pressure circulation along the Tamil Nadu coast. This weather system is expected to bring relief from dry weather with continued rainfall activity until the end of the month.
Apart from the Western Ghats, the rest of Tamil Nadu is likely to experience subdued weather conditions, with light rain expected in a few places. While widespread rainfall is not expected outside the Ghats region, isolated showers may occur based on local weather developments.
Chennai is forecasted to have light rain at a few places during the day, with brief and localized showers expected. Despite the rainfall, the city is anticipated to remain warm with a maximum temperature of around 39 degrees Celsius and high humidity levels, creating sultry conditions.
The IMD has indicated that maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will remain near normal until July 29, with no significant heatwave conditions predicted. The weak low-pressure circulation is likely to enhance cloud formation over the Western Ghats and nearby areas, supporting moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal without intensifying into a severe weather disturbance.
Residents in hilly districts and along the Western Ghats are advised to stay updated on local weather conditions and be cautious during moderate rainfall, especially in areas prone to waterlogging or minor landslides. In other parts of the state, stable weather conditions are expected with isolated spells of light rain.
