The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in the Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu. Chennai and some other parts of the state may experience light thundershowers later in the day. A trough at around 0.9 km altitude over the north Tamil Nadu coast and another trough between 1.5 km and 3.1 km above sea level from Telangana to the east-central Arabian Sea are expected to influence rainfall in the region.
These weather systems are likely to impact rainfall activity in various parts of Tamil Nadu in the upcoming days. Moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph is expected in the Western Ghats districts on Saturday. Additionally, isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal may witness light rain with thunderstorms, while most other areas are anticipated to remain dry.
From July 12 to July 14, moderate rainfall is expected in isolated areas of the Western Ghats districts, while dry weather is likely to prevail in the rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. On July 15, light to moderate rain is forecasted in isolated places in the Western Ghats region, with predominantly dry conditions elsewhere. The IMD has indicated that maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are not expected to change significantly on Saturday.
Temperatures are likely to remain close to normal from July 12 to July 14, with a slight increase during the daytime. Some parts of Tamil Nadu may see maximum temperatures 2-3 degrees Celsius above normal, while other areas, including Puducherry and Karaikal, are expected to have temperatures near seasonal averages. For Chennai, a partly cloudy sky is forecasted with light rain and thunderstorms in some areas. The maximum temperature is predicted to range between 37-38 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to be between 27-28 degrees Celsius.
