The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert warning of intense monsoon activity, including torrential rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds across several states on Monday. The next 14 hours are crucial as heavy rain and severe weather conditions are expected to escalate, with wind speeds potentially reaching up to 80 kmph in certain areas. This poses risks such as uprooted trees, power outages, traffic disruptions, and waterlogging in low-lying regions.
The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Uttarakhand for the entire week. Moreover, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall starting Monday. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are also expected in parts of Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, with caution advised for people to avoid open areas during adverse weather conditions.
Eastern India is set to witness significant monsoon activity in the upcoming days, with Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, and Bihar expected to receive widespread rainfall. Odisha is anticipated to face the most intense rainfall, including heavy to very heavy spells, with isolated areas likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall on July 27. Jharkhand and Bihar are also expected to see increased rainfall activity during the week.
The IMD has urged state authorities to stay vigilant and recommended the public to adhere to official weather advisories. It is advised to avoid unnecessary travel during intense rainfall periods and take necessary precautions in flood-prone, waterlogged, and landslide-prone areas as the monsoon continues to impact vast regions of the country.
