The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that a low-pressure area in the southwest Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka is expected to strengthen in the next 48 hours, leading to increased rainfall in Tamil Nadu. While the system is anticipated to become more active, there is currently no immediate threat of severe weather conditions in the region.
Moderate rainfall is forecasted in the southern coastal districts and delta regions of Tamil Nadu over the next four days due to the evolving weather system. The prevailing atmospheric conditions are likely to bring intermittent rain and cloudy skies to various areas as moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal increases.
IMD has issued a heavy rainfall warning for ten districts in Tamil Nadu on May 15 and 16, with thunderstorms and heavy rain expected in specific regions during this period. Weather officials suggest that rainfall activity may intensify, especially in interior and western districts, due to localized convection and moisture incursion triggered by the low-pressure system.
Fishermen are advised to monitor weather updates closely before heading out to sea, as rough conditions are expected in parts of the Bay of Bengal near the Tamil Nadu coast. Chennai is forecasted to experience partly cloudy to generally cloudy skies in the next two days, with maximum temperatures likely to stay below 37 degrees Celsius, providing some relief from the summer heat.
The recent weather developments coincide with increased pre-monsoon activity in south India, with scattered showers, gusty winds, and thunderstorms reported in various regions over the past week. Meteorologists are closely monitoring the movement and intensity of the low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
