The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in various parts of Tamil Nadu over the next three days. The Regional Meteorological Centre Chennai stated that a trough in the lower atmosphere extending from north interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar is likely to bring thunderstorms and showers to several districts. Coastal districts along the Western Ghats and parts of southern Tamil Nadu, the delta regions, and Karaikal may experience light to moderate rain with thunderstorms on Wednesday.
Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated locations in districts like Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri on Thursday. The intensity of the rain is predicted to continue on May 1, with heavy showers likely in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Dindigul, and Theni districts. The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning for May 2, indicating heavy rainfall at isolated places in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Sivaganga, and Virudhunagar districts, signaling active weather conditions across interior Tamil Nadu.
While maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are expected to remain relatively stable until May 3, a slight increase cannot be ruled out. The IMD has cautioned that high temperatures coupled with elevated humidity levels may cause discomfort in coastal areas, including Puducherry and Karaikal. In Chennai, partly cloudy skies are anticipated on Wednesday, with a maximum temperature of around 38–39 degrees Celsius and a minimum of about 28 degrees Celsius. Residents, especially in rain-prone districts, are advised to stay vigilant for sudden weather changes, such as thunderstorms and heavy showers in the upcoming days.
