The flight situation from Middle East countries to India is showing signs of improvement, with additional flights being operated. In the UAE, airlines are running limited non-scheduled flights, and around 80 flights are expected to operate from various airports to India. Flights are also operating from Saudi Arabia and Oman to India, while Qatar Airways plans to run nine non-scheduled commercial flights to India with the partial opening of Qatar airspace.
Special non-scheduled flights are being conducted from Saudi Arabia by carriers like Jazeera Airways and Gulf Air to facilitate the travel of Indian nationals back to India. Indian nationals in Iran are being assisted for travel to India via Armenia and Azerbaijan, with over 1,000 individuals, including students and citizens, having crossed out of Iran with the Indian mission’s help. Indian nationals in Israel are being helped to travel to India via Jordan.
Since February 28, approximately 426,000 passengers have returned from the region to India, with a total of 2,149 flights, including scheduled and non-scheduled flights of Indian and foreign carriers, operating during this period. The Ministry of External Affairs is also aiding in the repatriation of mortal remains of Indian nationals, with the mortal remains of an Indian national who passed away in Riyadh on March 18 brought back to India.
Indian missions in Oman, Iraq, and the UAE are coordinating with local authorities regarding missing and deceased Indian nationals, ensuring the early repatriation of mortal remains.
