Aleema Khan, the sister of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, has taken legal action against the alleged solitary confinement of her brother. She filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court, arguing that keeping Imran Khan isolated is illegal as there is no judicial order supporting it. Imran Khan, aged 73, has been in custody since August 2023 following what his party, PTI, calls politically motivated convictions.
Aleema Khan’s petition highlights that no court has sanctioned Imran Khan’s solitary confinement. She also claims that his legal team is being denied access to him for consultations and signing legal documents. The petition requests the High Court to declare the solitary confinement and lack of communication with Imran Khan as unlawful, citing violations of Articles 9 and 14 of Pakistan’s Constitution, as reported by Geo News.
Imran Khan’s family and PTI members have expressed concerns about his alleged solitary confinement, deteriorating health, and limited access to necessary amenities. Despite these concerns, the government and prison authorities have refuted these allegations. Calls have been made by his family for Imran Khan to be moved to a hospital for proper medical attention and tests, supervised by doctors and family members, with the opportunity for relatives to visit him.
Imran Khan’s sisters and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi were recently denied a meeting with him at Adiala Jail. Aleema Khan criticized this denial, stating that it goes against the Islamabad High Court’s directives for family visits on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She emphasized the need for Imran Khan to receive medical treatment in a suitable hospital, urging supporters to rally for his cause during this challenging period.
