Several incidents, including electrocution, a fatal stabbing, and clashes during Muharram processions, occurred in various parts of Bihar recently. In Gaya district, three youths suffered severe burn injuries from live electric wires during a Muharram Tazia procession. The injured individuals, identified as Mohammad Asgar, Mohammad Kamaluddin, and Mohammad Umar Ali, are receiving medical care.
Following the electrocution incident, security measures were increased, and electricity supply along the procession route was cut off. Despite the interruption, the procession later continued peacefully. Local residents raised concerns about low-hanging power lines along the route and urged for better safety precautions in the future.
In another incident in Samastipur district, a youth named Md. Javed died after being stabbed during a Muharram gathering. The stabbing occurred following an altercation between two individuals during an akhada performance. Police suspect a prior dispute between the two may have led to the fatal incident.
Near the Indo-Nepal border in Araria district, tensions arose when a Tazia procession from Nepal was denied entry to join the Indian procession at Karbala Maidan near Jogbani. Stone-pelting ensued, causing panic and minor damages to shops. Security forces were deployed to restore order, and investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible.
Security arrangements have been heightened in districts like Gaya, Araria, Muzaffarpur, Patna, and Katihar due to sporadic disturbances during Muharram observances. Authorities have urged residents to maintain peace, cautioned against social media rumors, and pledged to enhance preventive measures for crowd control and electrical safety during future processions.
