Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda, speaking at the 8th Convocation Ceremony of Swami Rama Himalayan University in Dehradun, highlighted the growth of AIIMS from 6 to 23 in just over a decade. He encouraged new medical graduates to uphold professional ideals and serve humanity with their skills.

Nadda emphasized the advancements in India’s health sector under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pointing out the rise in institutional deliveries to nearly 89%. He mentioned the decline in Maternal Mortality Ratio from 130 to 88 per lakh live births and the reduction in Infant Mortality Rate from 39 to 27 per thousand live births, indicating improved maternal and child health outcomes.

India’s progress in reducing Under-5 Mortality Rate, surpassing the global average decline, was highlighted by Nadda, attributing it to targeted policy measures and enhanced healthcare accessibility. He also commended the country’s efforts in tuberculosis control, surpassing global average reduction through sustained public health initiatives and community-based actions.

The Health Minister praised India’s extensive Covid-19 vaccination campaign, with over 220 crore vaccine doses administered nationwide, including precautionary and booster doses. This initiative showcased the scale, resilience, and efficiency of India’s public health system.
