Streets in various parts of India saw heightened police presence on Saturday as the country marked the Eid-ul-Fitr festival alongside the ongoing Chaitra Navratri festival. Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, was celebrated with prayers, feasts, and gatherings by Muslims in India and worldwide.
In a display of communal harmony, members of the Hindu community in Jaipur showered flower petals on Muslim worshippers offering Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at an Eidgah. Security was tight around the Ajmer Sharif Dargah in Rajasthan during the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers.
In Delhi, security was increased near Jamia Hamdard University as people gathered at mosques for Eid-ul-Fitr prayers. Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Delhi, Raja Banthia, mentioned detailed arrangements focusing on crowd management and vigilance to ensure a peaceful celebration.
Around 150-200 police personnel were deployed in New Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area to maintain law and order during the festivities. This action followed a directive from the Delhi High Court to ensure a secure environment during Eid celebrations.
Security was also heightened in sensitive areas of Uttar Pradesh to maintain peace during the celebrations. In districts like Sambhal and Moradabad, security arrangements were reviewed by local authorities to facilitate peaceful prayers.
In Madhya Pradesh, security measures were increased for Eid and Chaitra Navratri festivals. Dewas’ City Superintendent of Police, Sumit Agarwal, mentioned the deployment of police forces across mosques and intersections, with patrolling teams and CCTV monitoring in place.
