India witnessed significant progress in clean energy development in 2025, driven by strong leadership and clear policies. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted the country’s remarkable transition towards clean energy, emphasizing the government’s commitment to energy security and environmental responsibility. The non-fossil fuel power capacity in India surged to 266.78 gigawatts, a notable increase of 22.6% from the previous year, showcasing the impact of consistent policy implementation in the renewable energy sector.
Solar energy emerged as a key contributor to this growth, with India’s solar power capacity reaching 135.81 gigawatts, marking a substantial 38.8% rise compared to 2024. Additionally, wind energy capacity also saw steady growth, reaching 54.51 gigawatts with a 13.2% increase during the year. Minister Joshi attributed this progress to the government’s clear roadmap and long-term dedication to clean and sustainable energy practices.
The achievements in clean energy not only enhance India’s energy security but also reinforce its global commitment to combating climate change. By reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting green energy, India is positioning itself as a significant player in the global energy transition.
