Shreyas Iyer expressed disappointment with Punjab Kings’ subpar showing in their inability to defend 210 runs against Delhi Capitals at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. Iyer highlighted the team’s lapses in both bowling and fielding as crucial factors contributing to their defeat. Despite a strong start with a total of 210/5, Punjab Kings faltered in the latter stages of the match.
Reflecting on the match, Iyer admitted that Punjab Kings’ bowling and fielding were not up to the mark, leading to their downfall. Priyansh Arya’s aggressive innings, Iyer’s contributions in the middle, and Suryansh Shedge’s late onslaught on Mitchell Starc initially put Punjab Kings in a commanding position.
Punjab Kings’ captain believed that their total was competitive considering the challenging pitch conditions that favored seam movement and unpredictable bounce. However, Delhi Capitals mounted a remarkable chase, with David Miller’s explosive batting and contributions from other players steering them to victory. The match witnessed the highest successful IPL chase in Dharamsala history.
Iyer also explained the decision not to use Yuzvendra Chahal’s bowling despite the dew factor affecting the fast bowlers. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the right lengths and lines in bowling, which Punjab Kings failed to execute effectively, leading to missed opportunities in the game.
