External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced that the India Africa Forum Summit (IAFS-IV) will define the next phase of collaboration between the two sides, aiming for a more ambitious, inclusive, and future-focused partnership. The summit, scheduled for May 31 and organized by India in conjunction with the African Union Commission, will facilitate the exchange of best practices, successful experiences, and discussions on common challenges.
Jaishankar emphasized that the development partnership and capacity-building efforts between India and Africa are aligned with African priorities and local ownership. He highlighted the increased engagement in sectors like digital technology, fintech, and innovation, which are transforming economies across Africa. India and Africa have strengthened their involvement in various alliances such as the International Solar Alliance and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.
The minister underscored India’s consistent support for Africa’s global governance role, exemplified by the African Union’s inclusion in the G20 during India’s 2023 presidency. Stressing India’s expanding diplomatic presence in Africa, Jaishankar emphasized that the two regions are not only development partners but also collaborators in shaping a better world. The IAFS-IV aims to enhance the enduring India-Africa partnership by bringing together leaders from Africa, the African Union Commission, and regional organizations to chart a course for broader cooperation across sectors.
The summit, themed “IA SPIRIT: India Africa Strategic Partnership for Innovation, Resilience, and Inclusive Transformation,” will showcase the comprehensive nature of the India-Africa partnership. Preceding the summit, preparatory meetings including the India-Africa Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the Senior Officials Meeting will focus on key areas of cooperation. The India-Africa Forum Summit serves as a vital platform for dialogue and collaboration, guided by principles of mutual respect, equality, solidarity, and shared prosperity, leading to significant expansion of Indian development assistance and capacity building programs for Africa.
