The Fourth India–Africa Forum Summit, originally set for May 28–31 in New Delhi, has been delayed because of health issues in Africa. The Ministry of External Affairs revealed this decision following discussions with the African Union (AU) Chairperson and the African Union Commission. The postponement comes after the World Health Organization’s declaration of Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
India and the African Union, collaborators on the summit, have emphasized the importance of ongoing cooperation in enhancing public health readiness across Africa. The two sides have agreed to reschedule the summit to a later date to ensure full participation of African leaders. The new dates for the summit and related meetings will be decided through mutual consultations.
In response to the health situation, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport has issued a health advisory for passengers arriving from or transiting through Ebola-affected countries. Travellers displaying Ebola symptoms are advised to report to health authorities at the airport promptly. Passengers from high-risk countries are urged to inform health officials if they have had direct contact with suspected Ebola patients or develop symptoms within 21 days of arrival.
