India and Canada have completed the third round of talks for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in Ottawa from July 6-10. The discussions showed positive progress across various negotiation tracks, reflecting the mutual commitment to finalize the talks by 2026, as per the leaders’ vision, stated the Department of Commerce.
During the G7 Summit in Evian, France, last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hinted at a potential visit to Canada this year. He also expressed hope for the signing of the long-pending Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two nations before his visit. PM Modi conveyed these intentions during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Carney mentioned that significant advancements are being made towards concluding the FTA between India and Canada. Both countries have shown eagerness to enhance bilateral ties, with leaders expressing optimism about reaching an agreement soon. Carney emphasized that the FTA negotiations with India could have a transformative impact on Canadian workers and businesses.
