External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi in New Delhi to talk about cooperation between the two countries. They covered topics such as economic security, trade, energy, supply chain resilience, shipping, technology, innovation, and people-to-people ties. Both ministers also exchanged views on global and regional issues, including the situation in West Asia.
During the meeting, Jaishankar highlighted the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between India and Japan, emphasizing its significance. He mentioned an upcoming Quad format meeting to discuss promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region. The ministers reflected on their previous interactions in France and New Delhi earlier this year.
Motegi acknowledged the significant global changes post-World War II, noting power shifts and escalating conflicts. He appreciated Jaishankar’s remarks on shaping the international order during a previous dialogue. Motegi expressed optimism about the deepening and diversification of the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between the two countries.
Jaishankar expressed anticipation for Motegi’s participation in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting scheduled for the next day. The meeting was attended by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Japan’s Ambassador to India Ono Keiichi, and other officials. The ministers affirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties for mutual benefit.
