India and Japan recently held discussions to enhance their bilateral relationship. The meeting between India’s Ambassador to Japan, Nagma Mallick, and Japan’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Hiyoshi Takehiro focused on reviewing the outcomes of recent high-level exchanges and senior-level talks. Both sides also explored measures to further strengthen their cooperative ties.
During the meeting, they discussed potential areas of cooperation, including promoting cultural exchanges. Last month, Mallick met with Edogawa city Mayor Takeshi Saito to explore collaboration opportunities. Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi also visited India and emphasized the importance of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership in promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
Motegi highlighted various initiatives being pursued based on the Japan-India Joint Vision for the Next 10 Years. Both countries are working together in areas such as security, economy, investment, innovation, and people-to-people exchanges. They aim to achieve concrete results in economic growth, innovation, and economic security through mutual cooperation.
Minister Motegi further met with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in New Delhi to discuss various aspects of bilateral cooperation. The discussions covered economic security, trade, energy, supply chain resilience, shipping, technology, innovation, and people-to-people ties. Additionally, Motegi participated in the Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting in New Delhi along with counterparts from the US and Australia.
