The governments of India and Japan, along with their stakeholders, will mark 2027 as the ‘India–Japan Year of Shared Horizons’ to commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations. Throughout the year, various commemorative programs will be organized in both countries, with a special focus on engaging the youth. The week of April 28, 2027, will be observed as the India–Japan Week to celebrate their diplomatic ties through coordinated activities.
A logo and theme competition will be initiated to encourage people from both nations to envision the future of the India–Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. Additionally, a partnership named ‘IMAGE-75: Manga, Anime, Gaming’ will be launched to enhance people-to-people exchanges, leveraging the popularity of Japanese manga, anime, and gaming in India. This initiative aims to strengthen cultural ties between the two countries.
To highlight the spiritual and civilizational bonds between India and Japan, a Buddhist delegation from Japan will visit important Buddhist sites in India. This visit is expected to promote Buddhist tourism from Japan to India. Furthermore, ‘RASA-75’ will be introduced as a year-long arts and culture celebration, showcasing the rich traditions of both nations through various art forms and cultural activities.
‘SPORT-75’ will focus on enhancing sports cooperation between India and Japan, aligning with India’s aspiration to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036. As part of the 75th-anniversary celebrations, an India–Japan Friendship cricket match will be organized during the ‘Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026’. Additionally, a program called Cricket Kizuna-75 will facilitate a cricket bootcamp in Japan led by Indian coaches to bolster sporting exchanges between the two countries.
