India and Kenya convened the fourth Joint Defence Coordination Committee (JDCC) meeting in Nairobi to bolster defence collaboration in line with their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Cooperation and the BAHARI maritime vision document. The delegations from both nations acknowledged the progress made in defence cooperation between India and Kenya.

The meeting, co-chaired by Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) from the Ministry of Defence of India, Mr. Amitabh Prasad, and Kenyan counterpart Maj General Fredrick Leuria, ACDF(OPD&T), involved discussions on various aspects of enhancing defence cooperation as outlined in the joint MoU on Defence Cooperation and the BAHARI maritime vision document. The Indian High Commission in Nairobi shared details of the meeting post its conclusion.

Recent advancements in defence cooperation between India and Kenya, including the involvement of VCDF, KDF in AEROINDIA 2025, commissioning of the CT Scan complex, joint unveiling of India-Africa Commemorative Pillar, and other collaborative activities, were appreciated by the delegations. Discussions in the previous month focused on strengthening bilateral defence ties, with a particular emphasis on defence industrial collaboration, capacity building, training, and information sharing.

India’s Ministry of Defence delegation, led by Sanjeev Kumar, Defence Production Secretary, visited Nairobi to advance bilateral defence industrial cooperation. The delegation participated in the 3rd India–Kenya Defence Exhibition and Seminar, showcasing India’s defence manufacturing and export capabilities. The event, jointly inaugurated by Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Defence and Indian officials, witnessed the participation of 21 Indian defence companies, emphasizing ‘Make in India’ and export-ready defence solutions.

During the visit, Secretary (Defence Production) engaged with senior Kenyan defence leadership and paid homage at the Joint India–Africa Commemorative Pillar, symbolizing the shared sacrifice and enduring partnership between India and Kenya.
