India and Morocco recently convened the Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism in New Delhi, where they denounced the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and near the Red Fort in New Delhi. The two nations engaged in discussions regarding global and regional terrorist threats, emphasizing the need to combat violent extremism, terrorism financing, and the misuse of technology for terrorist activities.
During the meeting, co-chaired by Vinod Bahade and Hicham Baali, the officials condemned terrorism in all its forms, including cross-border terrorism. They explored avenues to enhance bilateral cooperation in counter-terrorism through information sharing, capacity building, and the exchange of best practices. Additionally, both countries reiterated their commitment to bolstering collaboration in multilateral platforms such as the United Nations and the Financial Action Task Force.
Furthermore, the meeting participants agreed to convene the next Joint Working Group session in Morocco at a mutually agreed-upon date. Last year, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Morocco, leading to the signing of a memorandum of understanding on defence cooperation. This MoU laid the groundwork for industrial collaboration, capacity building, and joint efforts in counter-terrorism. India and Morocco have a history of strong cooperation in capacity building and defense personnel training, with regular exchanges and visits between the two nations.
