India and Myanmar have agreed to enhance their bilateral relations, focusing on areas such as trade, investment, connectivity, development partnership, capacity building, security, and border management. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing discussed these matters during their meeting at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. PM Modi expressed India’s willingness to assist Myanmar in peace efforts and economic development.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of deepening the historic ties between the two nations, aiming to promote peace, progress, and prosperity. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, highlighted the commitment to advancing the India-Myanmar partnership. India reiterated its support for Myanmar in various aspects, including federal governance and economic growth experiences.
President U Min Aung Hlaing, on his first visit to India since taking office, is set to meet President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. He will also attend a cultural exposition in the capital. The visit includes engagements in Mumbai for business interactions and site visits, with a delegation comprising cabinet ministers, officials, and business leaders accompanying him.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar have also engaged with President Hlaing during his visit to New Delhi. The MEA expects the visit to strengthen the relations between India and Myanmar, aligning with India’s regional policies. President Hlaing’s visit is seen as a significant step to enhance the ties between the two countries.
