India and the Netherlands have revealed a comprehensive plan to enhance collaboration in emerging technologies, innovation, science, and higher education. Semiconductors are highlighted as a key aspect of this strategic partnership. The agreement aims to bolster secure semiconductor supply chains by fostering cooperation among industries, research institutions, and governments in both countries.
One of the key focuses of this partnership is the development of talent and ecosystems within the semiconductor sector. The two nations will link the Dutch Semicon Competence Centre with the India Semiconductor Mission to provide support to startups, SMEs, scale-ups, and suppliers through technology sharing, skill enhancement, and innovation-driven partnerships.
In a significant academic initiative, the Eindhoven University of Technology and the University of Twente have teamed up with six prestigious Indian institutions to establish a collaborative platform in semiconductors and related technologies. This collaboration involves leading industry players like NXP Semiconductors, ASML, Tata Electronics, and CG Semi.
Furthermore, both countries have agreed to enhance cooperation in scientific research and innovation by aligning national research priorities in areas such as energy materials, biomolecular and cell technologies, AI, and cybersecurity through the existing Joint Working Group on Science, Technology, and Innovation.
Apart from technology, India and the Netherlands have reiterated their dedication to strengthening higher education connections through regular institutional engagements and a joint working plan under the current MoU on higher education cooperation. They will also promote deeper STEM-focused academic exchanges and explore avenues for institutional partnerships.
The partnership extends to the space sector as well, with both nations aiming to utilize space-based applications to tackle global challenges such as climate change, water management, food security, and air quality.
