President Droupadi Murmu highlighted the significance of economic cooperation in the relationship between India and North Macedonia. During a joint press conference with North Macedonia’s President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, President Murmu revealed the mutual agreement to enhance trade, investment, and business collaborations. She expressed optimism that her visit would usher in a new phase of bilateral relations and thanked the warm reception from President Siljanovska-Davkova and the people of North Macedonia.
This visit marks the first by an Indian President to North Macedonia since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations. President Murmu emphasized the historic nature of the visit and the potential for a fresh start in bilateral relations. Productive discussions were held between the two leaders, covering a wide range of topics including bilateral cooperation, regional and global issues of common interest.
President Murmu detailed the discussions on cooperation across various sectors such as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and tourism during her meeting with President Siljanovska-Davkova. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to the strong friendship based on shared democratic values and respect. They agreed to boost trade, investment, and business-to-business collaborations, aiming to double bilateral trade and explore opportunities in IT, agriculture, food processing, pharmaceuticals, textiles, tourism, hospitality, and film industries.
Highlighting the cultural and people-to-people connections between the two countries, President Murmu emphasized the importance of cooperation in the creative industries sector for fostering cultural exchange. She also appreciated North Macedonia’s interest in joining India’s international initiatives for sustainable development, including the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, and Global Biofuel Alliance.
