The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that India and the United Kingdom have a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, emphasizing the deep-rooted and mutually beneficial ties between the two nations. The visit of UK’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs further solidified this relationship.
During the visit, Secretary Cooper met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and held discussions with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to assess the progress under the India-UK Vision 2035, which was agreed upon during the Prime Minister’s visit to the UK in July 2025. Key outcomes in education, critical minerals, and maritime security were highlighted during the discussions.
Both ministers reviewed advancements in various sectors under the India-UK Vision 2035, focusing on Growth, Technology and Innovation, Defence and Security, Climate and Clean Energy, and Education. Education was acknowledged as a successful area of cooperation, with plans for an early Ministerial Dialogue on Education.
The Ministry of Education approved the opening of the University of Liverpool’s Bengaluru campus under India’s New Education Policy (NEP), with operations expected to commence in the upcoming academic year. Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding was exchanged between King’s College London and the National Maritime Foundation to establish the Regional Maritime Security Centre for Excellence (RMSCE) under the ‘Maritime Security’ pillar of the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI).
