India captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressed confidence in young all-rounder Kashvee Gautam’s potential impact in the upcoming T20I series against South Africa. With the Women’s T20 World Cup approaching in June, India’s strategy focuses on a pace-heavy attack suited for South African conditions. Kashvee, known for her performances in the Women’s Premier League, is set for a T20I debut due to Amanjot Kaur’s absence.

Kashvee’s impressive record in the WPL includes 19 wickets in 18 games and notable batting contributions. Harmanpreet highlighted Kashvee’s versatility in both batting and bowling, emphasizing her importance in the absence of Amanjot. The captain stressed the significance of providing opportunities to young players like Kashvee to enhance the team’s performance.

Harmanpreet addressed the team’s strategic changes for the tour, citing the necessity of adjusting combinations due to Amanjot’s injury. She clarified that Vaishnavi Sharma’s exclusion was based on the need for a pace-heavy attack in South Africa. The captain praised the team’s spin bowlers, expressing faith in their abilities to deliver in the series.

Regarding team selection, Harmanpreet explained the decision to retain Uma Chetry as the wicketkeeper-batter over G Kamalini. She highlighted the talent of Anushka Sharma, emphasizing her all-round capabilities and the value of gaining experience before the World Cup. Harmanpreet emphasized the team’s confidence post the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup win and the importance of performing well in the upcoming series.

Recognizing the challenge posed by South Africa, Harmanpreet praised the Proteas as a balanced team with quality all-rounders. She acknowledged the competitive nature of the upcoming matches and the importance of facing strong opponents before the World Cup. The primary focus for the series is to ensure all players are prepared for the World Cup, with equal opportunities given to the squad members.
