India captain Shreyas Iyer admitted that the team’s struggles to adapt to changing conditions and costly fielding mistakes led to a 4-0 series defeat by England in the final T20I at The Rose Bowl. The loss marked a winless T20I tour for the reigning world champions, who also lost their top spot in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings to England. Iyer emphasized the importance of learning from the experience and improving in key areas like fielding to win matches.
The Indian skipper highlighted fielding lapses that allowed England’s Jos Buttler and Harry Brook to build a decisive 233-run partnership, setting up a formidable total of 257/3. Despite solid performances by Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma, India fell short in their chase, finishing at 201/8. Iyer mentioned missed catching opportunities and acknowledged England’s effective bowling execution as key factors in the match outcome.
Looking ahead, Iyer acknowledged England’s strong performance and emphasized the need for India to regroup and prepare for the upcoming three-match ODI series starting on July 14 in Birmingham. He praised Buttler and Brook’s batting display while recognizing the impact of dropped catches on the game’s momentum.
