India embraced the 59th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle, transforming ordinary mornings into celebrations of fitness and unity. Over 25 lakh citizens from more than 2.5 lakh locations participated in this movement initiated by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya in December 2024. The event, rooted in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Fitness Ka Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz’ call, aims to tackle lifestyle diseases and promote eco-friendly living.
In New Delhi, the Dr. Syama Prasad Mookherjee Swimming Complex buzzed with energy as nearly 500 students from various institutes joined Fit India Ambassadors Sebastian Mariagnanam Nadar and Neha Tanwar for a cycling event. Arjuna Awardee Deepak Niwas Hooda, emphasizing the significance of fitness, interacted with students, highlighting the initiative’s impact on the youth. Hooda stressed the importance of health and fitness in shaping the nation’s future.
The event in Delhi also saw the participation of Aman Sharma, a two-time Deaflympian, and representatives from National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs), emphasizing the link between skill development and healthy living. A street play on road safety added a social awareness element to the fitness-focused event, emphasizing the importance of responsible habits in daily life.
In Guwahati, the Sports Authority of India Regional Centre, in collaboration with IIT Guwahati, hosted a special edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle during the institute’s annual cultural festival, Alcheringa’26. Around 350 cyclists, including students, faculty, and fitness enthusiasts, pedaled through the city, infusing the youth festival with a strong fitness vibe.
Across the nation, the 59th edition unfolded at nearly 10,000 locations, with SAI Training Centres and Khelo India centres turning into vibrant fitness zones. The movement, now community-led, witnessed the participation of more than 5,000 NaMo Fit India cycling clubs and numerous citizens engaging in activities like yoga, Zumba, and fitness games, making Sundays a celebration of health and well-being.
