External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated that the relationship between India and China has been improving steadily since the 2024 meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan. During a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Manila, Jaishankar emphasized the importance of fair market access and trade balance. He highlighted the significance of peace and tranquility in border areas as essential for fostering normal ties between the two nations.

Jaishankar acknowledged the progress made in normalizing relations between India and China, such as the resumption of direct flights and the reopening of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. He also raised concerns about the reliability of supply chains and emphasized the need for facilitating exchanges at both official and people-to-people levels. The minister underscored the importance of managing differences between the two countries and ensuring that they do not escalate into disputes.

Expressing appreciation for China’s support for BRICS activities under India’s presidency, Jaishankar called for continued efforts to maintain peace and stability along the border. He stressed the significance of mutual respect, mutual interest, and mutual sensitivity in developing a stable and cooperative relationship between India and China. Both nations, as large neighbors, must address their specific interests while ensuring that differences are managed effectively through diplomatic channels.
