Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna’s impressive five-wicket haul, coupled with Yashasvi Jaiswal’s unbeaten century, led India to a dominant nine-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the third ODI at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Prasidh’s exceptional figures of 5-23, including four wickets in the Power-play, restricted Afghanistan to 218 all out in 44.2 overs, despite Hashmatullah Shahidi’s century.
In response, Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma formed a solid 170-run opening partnership, with Jaiswal smashing an unbeaten 110 off 86 balls, supported by Rohit’s 79 runs. Jaiswal’s second ODI century in three innings, featuring 14 boundaries and three sixes, guided India to victory with 128 balls to spare, marking India’s first series win under Shubman Gill’s captaincy.
India started strongly with Rohit and Jaiswal finding boundaries early on, reaching 86 without loss at the end of the Power-play. Jaiswal accelerated his innings, reaching his fifty off 38 balls, while Rohit also notched up a half-century off 47 balls. Despite Afghanistan introducing spinners to slow the run rate, Jaiswal and Rohit continued to score comfortably.
As the chase progressed, Jaiswal’s impeccable timing and placement shone through, culminating in a century off 83 balls with a brilliant drive over extra cover. With Afghanistan struggling to break the partnership, Jaiswal sealed the win in style with a boundary and a six off the final over.
