Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh affirmed India’s dedication to creating a safe, secure, and inclusive AI future during his speech at the United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva. He stressed the importance of foundational principles, human oversight, and upholding human rights in responsible AI governance. Singh highlighted that India’s National Strategy for AI and National AI Governance Guidelines prioritize inclusive growth and innovation without hindrance.
Singh emphasized the need for the Global South to bridge existing capacity gaps to actively engage in AI governance discussions. He underscored the significance of the United Nations as a platform for global consensus on international issues, stating that AI governance structures should promote unity of purpose over division. Singh urged for consensus-building over conflict to ensure AI’s role as an enabler of equitable progress.
Singh’s participation in the UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance aligns with the forum’s aim to facilitate discussions on AI governance following the Global Digital Compact adopted in September 2024. The dialogue serves as a crucial platform for stakeholders to shape the future of AI governance on a global scale.
