India has announced a day of national mourning on July 13 following the death of Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Father Amir of Qatar. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the National Flag will be flown at half-mast across India on all buildings where it is regularly hoisted, with no official entertainment on that day. Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju is set to visit Qatar soon to offer condolences on behalf of the Indian government.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow over the passing of Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, praising him as a visionary leader who significantly developed and prospered Qatar. PM Modi recalled Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani as a true friend of India, with whom he had the privilege of meeting during his visit to Qatar in February 2024. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, who ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013, handed over leadership to his son Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, overseeing significant economic, social, and cultural advancements during his tenure.
