The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather advisory predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in various parts of the country in the upcoming days. The southwest monsoon remains active, leading to widespread rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds affecting regions like Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Assam, Meghalaya, and other northeastern states.
Gujarat is expected to witness particularly intense rainfall, with some areas likely to experience extremely heavy showers. This weather pattern is attributed to a low-pressure area over southeast Rajasthan and adjoining Madhya Pradesh, along with an active monsoon trough and multiple cyclonic circulations, sustaining widespread rainfall over northwest, central, western, and northeastern India.
In Delhi and adjoining NCR, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected on Saturday, with rainfall activity anticipated to intensify over the next few days. Mumbai and the Konkan region are also likely to experience heavy rainfall, with isolated areas expecting very heavy showers. Authorities have cautioned about potential waterlogging and traffic congestion in low-lying areas as the monsoon persists along Maharashtra’s coastal belt.
In Gujarat, Ahmedabad and surrounding districts are forecasted to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated areas likely to face extremely heavy spells, posing risks of local flooding and disruptions to normal life. Rajasthan, especially Jaipur and eastern districts, is also expected to receive heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
The IMD has issued warnings for rain and thunderstorms in multiple states, including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, with gusty winds up to 85 kmph expected in some areas. Residents are advised to remain cautious, as hilly regions face landslide risks, and strong winds in eastern India may cause tree uprooting and disrupt transport and power supply.
