Indian swimmer Srihari Nataraj, an Olympian, placed 11th in the men’s 50m backstroke semifinal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games with a time of 25.29 seconds. Despite missing the final, he remains optimistic, aiming for the Asian Games later this year. Nataraj’s performance in Glasgow marked a decline from his fifth-place finish at Birmingham 2022.

Nataraj, satisfied with his progress, mentioned that he has been swimming more effectively and experimenting with new training methods. Inspired by Australian champion Cam McEvoy, he has shifted to a sprint-focused training program over the past three months. The swimmer believes these changes are already showing positive results in his performance.

Acknowledging the increased competition level at the Commonwealth Games, Nataraj expressed disappointment at missing out on a medal but remains focused on upcoming events. He plans to enjoy Scotland before gearing up for the Asian Games, emphasizing the importance of consistent training. Nataraj is undecided about his participation in the 2028 Olympics, with his current focus solely on the Asian Games.

Reflecting on past near misses in major competitions, Nataraj remains resilient and determined to control what he can in his swimming career. Despite setbacks, he values the learning experience gained from each race and remains committed to improving. Nataraj expressed gratitude for the support received and encouraged others to enjoy their pursuits, emphasizing the importance of having fun and making the most of opportunities.
