India and New Zealand have reiterated their joint commitment to intensify collaboration in fighting terrorism, bolstering cyber-security, and tackling emerging security issues. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon have agreed to enhance their involvement in regional and global forums to advance worldwide peace, security, and resilience.
Both leaders have emphasized the need to enhance cooperation on counter-terrorism, cyber security, and related security matters. They have pledged to explore closer engagement opportunities through discussions and partnerships in various regional and global platforms to uphold international peace, security, and resilience, as per a joint statement by India and New Zealand.
The Prime Ministers have strongly condemned all forms of terrorism, including cross-border terrorism, and called for a comprehensive approach towards combating terrorism financing networks, dismantling terror infrastructure, and bringing terrorists to justice promptly. They have also welcomed the establishment of a Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism to facilitate information sharing and collaboration.
India and New Zealand have committed to strengthening practical cooperation in law enforcement to combat transnational and organized crimes such as illicit drug trafficking, financial crimes, cyber-enabled offenses, terrorism-related activities, and human trafficking. They aim to formalize arrangements for counter-narcotics cooperation and law enforcement collaboration between relevant agencies from both countries.
PM Modi and Luxon have exchanged perspectives on their respective Indo-Pacific strategies, reiterating their support for a free, open, peaceful, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region where sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the rules-based international order are upheld. They have emphasized the importance of peaceful dispute resolution in accordance with international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The leaders have highlighted the significance of cooperation in ASEAN-led and other regional forums like the East Asia Summit, the ASEAN Regional Forum, and the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus. They have reaffirmed the centrality of ASEAN and the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific for regional security and prosperity.
