As Bangladesh commemorated the 45th death anniversary of former President Ziaur Rahman, India honored the late leader for his pivotal March 1971 radio address that inspired resistance against Pakistani forces, leading to the country’s liberation. The Indian High Commission in Dhaka highlighted Rahman’s significant role, emphasizing shared sacrifices and mutual development between India and Bangladesh.
Thousands, including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders, gathered in Dhaka’s Zia Udyan to pay respects to Ziaur Rahman on his death anniversary. Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman also remembered his father, expressing reverence for the late President and party founder’s legacy. Ziaur Rahman tragically lost his life on May 30, 1981, at the Chattogram Circuit House, allegedly at the hands of dissatisfied army officers.
In a recent exchange, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended Eid al-Adha greetings to Tarique Rahman and the people of Bangladesh, underscoring India’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation. Modi emphasized the enduring partnership based on shared sacrifices, cultural affinities, and common objectives of peace, stability, and progress. The leaders expressed mutual eagerness to bolster collaboration across various sectors for the benefit of both nations.
