The Ministry of External Affairs announced that Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has been invited to visit Nepal, with the dates to be mutually agreed upon. The two nations are focused on strengthening their ties, especially since Balen Shah became Nepal’s Prime Minister. There were reports of Misri’s visit being postponed due to Shah’s reluctance to meet foreign diplomats, but both countries are committed to enhancing their partnership.
Last week, Nepal raised concerns with India and China regarding the use of the disputed Lipulekh Pass for Indian tourists visiting Kailash Mansarovar. India confirmed that the pilgrimage would proceed through two established routes, including Lipulekh Pass, emphasizing its historical use for the yatra. India reiterated its openness to dialogue with Nepal on all bilateral issues, including boundary disputes.
In a recent meeting between EAM Jaishankar and Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal, both sides discussed enhancing collaboration across various sectors to realize the full potential of their partnership. Prime Minister Modi had earlier congratulated PM Shah on assuming office and expressed eagerness to elevate bilateral relations for the benefit of both nations’ citizens. PM Shah reciprocated the sentiment, expressing a desire to work closely with PM Modi for the prosperity of both countries.
