India has taken steps to secure liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies through alternative routes amidst reports of shortages due to the West Asia crisis. Government officials have confirmed that these supplies from alternative locations are expected to arrive in the country soon. Indian refiners have also ramped up domestic LPG production by 10% following government directives to maximize cooking gas output.
Reliance Industries Ltd’s Jamnagar oil refining complex is set to increase cooking gas LPG production. The company stated that ensuring uninterrupted access to essential fuels for Indian households is a national priority, especially during global energy market volatility. Additionally, natural gas from the KG-D6 Basin will be redirected to support supply to priority sectors in alignment with national energy priorities and government guidelines.
Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted India’s efforts to diversify import sources beyond West Asia amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the region. He reassured citizens that domestic gas supplies remain stable and that the country continues to receive energy imports through various sources and supply routes. The government has implemented measures to maintain uninterrupted fuel supplies for households and key sectors, ensuring full supplies of compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG) for domestic consumers.
Industries are receiving approximately 70-80% of their gas requirements despite challenges arising from the conflict. Minister Puri reiterated the government’s commitment to providing affordable and uninterrupted energy supply for households nationwide.
