India achieved third place in the women’s team standings and fifth in the men’s team standings at the Asian Senior Weightlifting Championships 2026 held at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The event, hosted by the Indian Weightlifting Federation, featured 172 athletes from 30 nations competing in various categories over six days.
China emerged as the top-ranking country in both the women’s and men’s team standings, with India securing notable positions. In the women’s category, China claimed the first spot, followed by Chinese Taipei and India in third place. Similarly, in the men’s team standings, China led the rankings, followed by DPR Korea and Uzbekistan.
The championship witnessed outstanding performances, setting numerous Asian and world records. Notably, Ri Suk of DPR Korea and HE Yueji of China were recognized as the best lifters in their respective categories. The closing ceremony, attended by officials and athletes, marked the end of the successful event, emphasizing the high level of competition and sportsmanship displayed.
