India is set to compete in the Archery World Cup 2026 Stage 2 in Shanghai with a formidable 16-member squad led by experienced archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Deepika Kumari. Over 300 archers from 44 countries will participate in this event, vying for crucial qualification spots for the season-ending World Cup Final in Saltillo later this year.
Following a modest start to the season with just one medal at Stage 1 in Puebla, India is determined to excel in Shanghai. The team, which includes Jyothi, Madhura Dhamangaonkar, and Pragati, secured a gold in the women’s compound event at Stage 1. This same squad, selected during national trials in Kolkata in February, will represent India in Shanghai.
Last year, India had a successful outing in Shanghai, clinching seven medals, including two golds. The men’s compound team, which emerged victorious in Shanghai last year, boasts a strong lineup featuring Kushal Dalal, Ojas Deotale, Sahil Jadhav, and Abhishek Verma, bringing a wealth of experience to the competition.
Deepika Kumari, a standout archer with 38 World Cup medals to her name, will lead India’s recurve challenge. With a focus on improving her performance from last year, Deepika aims to add to her accolades. The men’s recurve team will be spearheaded by Olympians Atanu Das and Tarundeep Rai, supported by promising young talents.
The competition is scheduled to take place from May 5 to 10, with the finals set for May 9 (compound) and May 10 (recurve). Indian viewers can watch the live streaming of the finals on Archery+, as there will be no television broadcast available.
