India has delivered 20 tonnes of Bacillus Calmette–Guerin (BCG) and Tetanus & Diphtheria (Td) vaccines to Kabul to aid in immunizing Afghan children. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, mentioned that this delivery is part of India’s commitment to supporting Afghanistan’s Child Immunisation Programme. In addition to this recent aid, India had previously sent 13 tonnes of BCG vaccines in April to assist in fighting Tuberculosis (TB) in Afghanistan.
India’s support for Afghanistan extends beyond vaccines. In response to recent floods and earthquakes, India provided Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief material (HADR) to help the affected people. This assistance included essential items like kitchen sets, hygiene kits, plastic sheets, tarpaulins, and sleeping bags. The Ministry of External Affairs expressed solidarity with the Afghan people during these challenging times.
Furthermore, India has also sent emergency medical supplies to Afghanistan following an attack on a hospital in Kabul. The 2.5-tonne consignment included medicines, medical disposables, kits, and equipment to aid in the treatment of those injured in the attack. India reiterated its commitment to stand by the Afghan people and provide humanitarian support in times of need.
