India is poised to become the primary market for OpenAI in the near future, according to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Altman, speaking at an event in New Delhi, highlighted that India currently stands as the second-largest market for OpenAI outside the United States. He emphasized the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, noting the significant progress made in just a short span of time.

Altman pointed out the remarkable evolution in AI capabilities, citing that AI systems can now handle research-level mathematics and even identify new problems not yet recognized by humans. He underscored the exponential growth phase in technology, where a single skilled software engineer, aided by AI, can now accomplish tasks that previously required a team.

Discussing the future landscape, Altman envisioned that an individual could potentially match the productivity of a large team, or even an entire company’s engineering workforce. He highlighted the unprecedented speed at which this transformation is unfolding. Altman also highlighted the increasing concentration of intellectual capacity within data centers powering AI systems, foreseeing a widening gap between machine intelligence and human efforts.

He viewed this disparity as an opportunity for leveraging AI tools to foster creativity, product development, and value creation on a scale previously unattainable. Altman emphasized the global impact of AI, noting a surge in entrepreneurial energy worldwide and the empowerment of individuals and small teams to innovate and compete effectively with larger organizations. He expressed optimism for sustained creative momentum in the foreseeable future.
